Project: hotel*

location: Houston, Texas

project description

Nestled in downtown Houston within the walls of a meticulously repurposed historic publishing house known once as The Post Dispatch lies the Magnolia Hotel - A Tribute Portfolio. This hotel celebrates the art of this buildings past and pays homage to its days of grandeur. The narrative draws inspiration from the elegant parlors and grand living rooms of yesteryears, creating an inviting and refined atmosphere for guest to unwind. Hints of its past can be seen in key details such as the printing press reception desk and its custom embossed ink and concrete backdrop. Columns clad with small typewriter keys can be seen sprinkled throughout the public areas. The color palette evokes the nostalgia of ink-stained pages with indigos and charcoals. Seamlessly blending past and present, this hotel is a timeless haven where guests can create their own stories within the embrace if literary heritage.

project description

The private niche take the details of an old block printer set and intricately displays the name of the building during its grandeur days, Post Dispatch, and allows guests a place to sit quietly in a group or work from the powered cowork table. The large iron Texas cutout was an existing piece that was reworked to become a focal "instagrammable" moment at the entry and clad with deco tiles for a modern twist on a traditional element. Cove ceiling details reminiscent of the dark Texas sky re sprinkled through in a deep charcoal metallic plaster along with modern lighting.
